L. plantarum 299VTM is one of the best documented strains of probiotic bacteria in the world, thoroughly tested for safety and efficacy in over 60 human clinical trials. It helps to suppress the growth of potentially harmful bacteria in the gut and increase gut diversity. In clinical tests, a dose of 10 billion live bacteria is shown to help reduce digestive issues like abdominal pain, bloating and gas, improve stool frequency and reduce diarrhoea (Nordström et al., 2021). 
 
Niacin (vitamin B3) 
Niacin is an essential water-soluble B vitamin that serves a wide range of important functions for the body. It is key when it comes to supporting gut health and a balanced gut microbiome (Niño-Narvión et al., 2023). It helps maintain the protective mucous membranes that line the intestines. The mucous membrane forms a protective, lubricated layer that inhibits invading harmful microbes, and ensures proper nutrient absorption (EFSA, 2009). 
 
Niacin contributes to the maintenance of normal mucous membranes.
